| WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is based on the premise that there are
zones of reflexes in the whole of the body which correspond
to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs
of the entire body.
Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, placing
the body in a parasympathetic healing state, enabling
the disharmonies to be released by a physiological
change in the body. With stress removed and circulation
improved, the body is allowed to return to a state
of homeostasis. Reflexes are worked according to the
body: alleviating stress is the first priority, followed
by improving circulation and then attention is paid
to reflexes relative to any disharmonies in the body.
HISTORY OF REFLEXOLOGY
Barefoot walking on sand and rough terrain has always
been a natural, beneficial foot treatment. Hieroglyphics
dating as early as the 6th Dynasty (about 2330 B.C.)
in Egypt indicate that reflexology has deep roots.
India and China have similar evidence of the practice
of Reflexology.
In 1913, Reflexology was brought to North America
by Dr. William Fitzgerald, an M.D. in Connecticut.
He used “Zone Therapy”, as it was called,
to deaden pain in some parts of the body. Reflexology
has been well-established and widely accepted in Scandinavia
and many European countries. It has taken many years,
but, Reflexology is now gaining recognition and acceptance
in America.
MANY CONDITIONS BENEFIT FROM
REFLEXOLOGY
With regular treatments, the reflexology practitioner
can help to normalize the affected areas of the body.
As certified reflexology practitioners, we are not
medically trained and cannot by law cure or diagnose
or treat for any specific condition. Reflexology can
serve as a preventative program for health care. Reflexology
can work in total harmony with other methods of treatment
and should be considered not as an alternative but
a complementary therapy.
